My wife, Dawn, and I moved
to Colorado Springs from Korea at the end of 1999. Right away,
we began attending conferences convened by Dr. Peter and Doris
Wagner of
Global
Harvest Ministries.
It was at these conferences that we first became aware of Mike
Bickle and his brand-new prayer ministry in Kansas City called
the
International House of Prayer (IHOP).
This was also our first introduction to the “Bridal Paradigm.”
Right away, we fell in love with Mike’s spirit. His passion and
commitment to this message were apparent, but our minds could
not fully grasp what he was talking so energetically about!
Every time we would hear Mike speak, it would begin to sink in
just a little bit more and before we knew it, we were fully
bought into this new way of relating to God as a glad-hearted
Lover who is passionately and jealously pursuing His Bride and
loves Her even in her weakness. In the process of relating to
our Heavenly Bridegroom in this way, we become fascinated by His
Beauty and subsequently re-direct our affections toward Him and
discover, to our delight, that we can know and experience
pleasures that are far superior to what this world has to offer
as our soul finds rest in Him.
In
the Spring of 2001, I attended an Army school at Fort
Leavenworth, KS. Since it was such a short drive to Kansas City
from there, I visited IHOP, Metro Christian Fellowship and the
Bookstore as often as I could. The spiritual atmosphere
was so charged that the prayer room became like a magnet to my
spirit. I couldn’t get enough of it. I bought many
resources to acquaint myself further with the Bridal Paradigm.
My
wife and I attended the ‘One
Thing’ Young Adult Conference
at the close of 2002. The powerful worship and prayer
conference was joined this particular year with The Call-KC, led
by
Lou
Engle. We
bought more resources, visited the
24/7
prayer room
and our hearts began to burn even hotter with love for our
Tender, Passionate, Glad-hearted Bridegroom King.
Dawn
and I felt the Lord asking us to make a commitment to bring the
New Year in each year in Kansas City at the One Thing
Conference. So at the end of 2003, we found ourselves right
back in front of the fiery furnace of God’s love there in Bartle
Hall in Kansas City. This time, we felt our hearts stirring
even deeper. We had been drinking deeply from the wellspring of
the Bridal Paradigm, but now the Lord seemed to be calling us to
action—to do something with this knowledge he had given us about
who He is and who we are as a Bride in relationship to Him.
So
we attended the IHOP Informational Meeting where Mike Bickle and
Allen Hood, the
Director of the Forerunner School of Ministry,
talked about how to join IHOP or start a House of Prayer in your
own community. The Lord continued speaking to me about how we
might get involved in this prayer ministry. After they had
finished talking, they opened it up for questions. I stood up
at one point and asked Mike if he knew of any Houses of Prayer
in the Military. If not, I was feeling a strong burden
from the Lord to start one. He responded, “No, I don’t know of
any, but we would love for you to be the Prototype!” The words
resounded in my spirit with such great force it was almost as if
I was receiving a Mandate from Heaven.
Dawn
and I both sensed a burning desire to spend more time in this
Community of ‘lovesick worshippers’ who couldn’t seem to get
enough of God. We were captivated by the hundreds of “Annas”
(men and women committed to the ministry of prayer and fasting
in such an intense way that it radically transforms the way they
live their lives. They will often answer the call to become an
“intercessory missionary” forsaking all else to raise support
solely to minister to the Lord in prayer and fasting) who had
laid it all down to join the
Friends
of the Bridegroom (FOTB) Missions Base,
raising support for the sole purpose of being able to commit
themselves fully to the ministry of prayer and fasting.
I
knew I had to find a way to come to IHOP and just sit before the
Lord to hear HIS heart for how we were to respond. The Lord
spoke to me about going on an extended fast. We were getting
ready to leave Fort Carson and Colorado Springs for Fort Hood,
Texas It became clear to us that I should spend my 30 days of
transition leave in Kansas City at the Missions Base to seek
the Lord for strategy on how to start a House of Prayer in the
Military; to connect with people there who share a burden for
the military; and to discover resources to help us get started.
The
Lord did some amazing things in my heart during the fast. I
received the strategy I was looking for and made some awesome
new friends who encouraged me in my clarion call from the Lord
to mobilize an army of intercessors and establish houses of
prayer in military communities around the world. |
